To escape the hustle and bustle of Toronto city and to see the skyline of this city in perspective, hop into a Ferry and take a ride to Toronto Islands. Whatever kind of person you might be, you are sure to find some thing interesting here. Pack a picnic lunch for yourself, sit at one of the many picnic tables, and enjoy a carefree conversation with your companion. Stroll around in the gorgeous flower gardens, or splash around in the wading pools. You can even take your bike and cycle around the park or play games like volleyball and softball. Boats are available on rent, and you can go boating around the island.

The Toronto Island attracts a lot of tourists, most of them heading towards the popular destination of Centre Island, which is also the largest of all islands in Toronto. The atmosphere on this island is always lively, and visitors can even enjoy a ride on the trackless train which takes them towards the east or west side of the island. Not to miss is the Centreville, an amusement park that is built after the style of a 20th-century village.

Ward’s Island, located towards the east side of the island, is the second largest island in Toronto Island. The island is named after the family that first settled here, and now most of the island’s residents live here in a settlement that’s made up of nearly 300 cottages and homes. Visitors can spend time on the beach, playground, or the picnic area.

Finally, you have the west side of the island that began as a resort destination in the late nineteenth century. A hotel was built by John Hanlan, giving the area the name of Hanlan’s point. The amusement park on this side of the island was destroyed in the mid-twentieth century, and in its place came the Toronto Island Airport.

Hanlan’s point attracts visitors who come to see the Gibraltar point lighthouse. There is also a lot of wildlife and local birds for nature lovers. The public dock allows the tourists to bring their own boats or cruisers. There are several historical buildings on this island, including the Toronto Island Natural Science School.

No cars are allowed on all the islands, and ferries are your only way in and out. Another option is flying to the islands, but that works out to be more expensive. The ferries run regularly in all seasons except the winters, when their frequency becomes limited. There are three ferry routes that are connected to the Centre Island, Ward’s Island, and Hanlan’s Point.

The Toronto islands provide a quick getaway from the city. While you are still so close to it, you get the feeling of being distant. Choose your own peaceful corner and enjoy your day off, or land here with your friends and family and enjoy a picnic. Either way, you will love coming to the Toronto islands.
